STEM MIX & MASTER PROJECT GUIDE

This page outlines how the STEM Mix & Master process works, what I’ll need from you, and what you can expect at each stage.

The aim is to ensure a smooth, focused workflow and the best possible result for your release.

WHAT A STEM MIX & MASTER IS

A STEM Mix & Master sits between Stereo Mastering and traditional Mixing.

It allows for active balance, density, energy, and impact enhancements by working with grouped elements (STEMs), while maintaining the artist’s creative intent and improving translation.

This process is used when the production and arrangement are final, but refined control and cohesion are essential for the music to feel fully finished.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU

To begin work, please ensure the following:

  • 10-20 final, approved STEMs, clearly grouped and labelled

  • A stereo reference of the approved mix

  • All intentional and creative processing in place; remove final limiting only

  • All STEMs exported from the same session start point as WAV or AIF files

  • Identical sample rate, bit depth, and length across all files

  • The original sample rate is retained

  • 24-bit or above is ideal

  • Reference tracks (optional)

  • Any specific delivery requirements (formats, versions)

Please review files carefully before submission. Replacing STEMs once work has started may incur additional fees.

THE PROCESS

Once your project is scheduled:

  1. STEMs are mixed, balanced, shaped, and optimised into a cohesive master

  2. Masters are delivered for review

  3. Revisions are handled collaboratively until approval

Revisions are included, and most projects are approved within one or two rounds. The focus is on achieving clarity, impact, and consistency - not revisiting key creative and production decisions.

DELIVERY & FORMATS

By default, final masters are supplied as:

  • 24-bit WAV at the original sample rate

  • An additional 16-bit / 44.1k WAV included as standard

Alternative formats (MP3, Apple Digital Masters, etc.) can be provided on request.

Projects are considered complete and archived one month after approval.

TURNAROUND & SCHEDULING

Turnaround times are confirmed when the project is scheduled.

Express delivery options are available, subject to availability.

COMMUNICATION

If you have any questions during the process, feel free to email or call.

Clear communication helps ensure the project moves smoothly and stays focused.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with you to finish your music and look forward to delivering masters that translate with confidence, control, and impact.
