MIX & MASTER PROJECT GUIDE
This document outlines how the process works for projects where a single engineer handling both the mix and mastering best serves the music, what I’ll need from you, and what you can expect at each stage.
The aim is to ensure a smooth, focused workflow and the best possible result for your release.
WHAT A MIX & MASTER IS
This is a much more involved process than mastering alone and is offered for select projects where deeper creative and technical involvement is appropriate.
The focus is on balance, tone, impact, and translation - shaping the music as a cohesive whole while ensuring it meets release standards across platforms.
This process involves active creative refinement, followed by final mastering and QC to prepare the record for release.
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU
To begin work, please ensure the following:
Final, approved multitracks or STEMs as WAV or AIF files
All files are clearly labelled and organised
All files exported from the same session start point
Processing is kept on individual elements, where it is creatively essential
Both Dry and Wet versions of vocals are provided (whenever possible)
Any rough mixes or references that reflect your vision
The original sample rate is retained; 24-bit or above is ideal
Any specific delivery requirements (formats, versions)
Any specific direction or special requests are provided
Please review files carefully before submission. Replacing files or making arrangement changes once work has started may incur additional fees.
THE PROCESS
Once your project is scheduled:
Mixing is carried out with a focus on balance, clarity, and musical intent, followed by a final dedicated Mastering pass.
A single mixed & mastered version is delivered for review.
Revisions are handled collaboratively until the project is approved
Revisions are included, and most projects are approved within one or two rounds. The focus is on achieving clarity, impact, and consistency - not revisiting creative mix decisions.
DELIVERY & FORMATS
By default, final masters are supplied as:
24-bit WAV at the original sample rate
An additional 16-bit / 44.1k WAV included as standard
Alternative formats (MP3, Apple Digital Masters, etc.) can be provided on request.
Projects are considered complete and archived one month after approval.
TURNAROUND & SCHEDULING
Turnaround times are confirmed when the project is scheduled.
Mix & Mastering projects require more time than mastering alone, and scheduling reflects this.
Express delivery options are available, subject to availability.
COMMUNICATION
If you have any questions during the process, feel free to email or call.
Clear communication helps ensure the project moves smoothly and stays focused.
I appreciate the opportunity to be involved with your music and look forward to delivering a finished record that translates with clarity, impact, and confidence.
